Michael Kellenbenz was born in a marzipan city, but he's less interested in sweet kitty photos than in musicians of passion. He held a camera in his hands for the first time in 1976. Back then he couldn't guess that his best photo would originate when he did not except it at all. Special moments like this are often recognised in retrospect. "Die Schönheit der Chance" ("The Beauty of the Chance"). This song title by German indie rock band Tomte became a leitmotif for Kelman's work. He opposes the flood of colourful, less detailed pictures with photos that uncover the look between the imaginary lines at best. If Johnny Cash or Michel Petrucciani were still alive, he would love to portray them. Leonard Cohen or Stanley Clarke stand right on the top of his current wish list. For Tomte singer Thees Uhlmann he is already the "Hamburg's friendliest photographer".
